GEORGE CUMMINGS
George Cummings is the Program and Production manager for Temple University Television (TUTV) in Philadelphia, PA. He was hired to launch the educational cable station in 2010 and is responsible for all aspects of program acquisition and production. He is also a freelance producer and director.
Prior to this, George was Operations/Program Manager at WTXF-TV, the FOX owned and operated station in Philadelphia. In addition to managing all program and production operations, George was the Executive Producer of all non-news programming. He began his career in 1978 as a commercial director for various clients in the Philadelphia market. His primary focus has been with live location television productions in sports and entertainment, specializing in start-up projects. He has produced game coverage and programming for Philadelphia Flyers Hockey, Phillies Baseball and Eagles pre-season football. He managed the football production unit for all of WTXF’s pre and post game programs for Philadelphia Eagles coverage. He was involved with the WTXF’s coverage of eight Super Bowls and three World Series. He served as FOX’s local production manager for joint local and national coverage for the Volunteer Summit and the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia.
A member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter since 1983, George has received four Regional Emmy awards in the Sports, Documentary and Entertainment categories. He has been a member of the Board of Governors for the Chapter since 1992. He was Treasurer from 1998 to 2001 and served as President from 2001 until 2003. He was a National Trustee from 2003 until 2005.
George resides in Media, Pennsylvania with his wife Denise and has two daughters, Maureen and Madeleine.
AMY BURKETT
She joined PBS 39 12 years ago to create and host its weekly
newsmagazine show Tempo. As the Senior Vice President of Production
she and her team are delighted to have received four national public
television awards, eight Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters
Awards, 28 regional Emmy nominations, six regional Emmys and one
regional Edward R. Murrow Award . Amy was recently promoted to
Station Manager and in addition to her production responsibilities is
now in charge of all new business development for the station
including all work for hire in PBS39’s new state of the art production
facility on the largest brownfield redevelopment site in the United
States.
Amy believes in the importance of community involvement and works with youth at her church and across the region. She also served as President of the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences from 2009-2011 the organization that produces the regional Emmys and represents over 600 television professionals across four states. She is honored to be in her first term as a National Trustee for NATAS.
Amy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in Ohio .
