LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TO SHEILA NEVINS

An All-Star Lineup of News and Television Professionals to Join in Honoring the HBO Executive at the 26th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards on September 19th

NEW YORK – June 28, 2005 – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced today that it will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Sheila Nevins, president, HBO Documentary and Family, at the 26th Annual News and Documentary Awards on Monday, September 19.

Various leaders in the news and television industries are slated to attend the ceremony where Ms. Nevins will be honored for her contributions to the art of the documentary. It is the first time the National Television Academy presents a News and Documentary Lifetime Achievement Award to a documentarian.

“Sheila Nevins is an extremely accomplished person and one of the most powerful executives in television documentaries,” said Peter Price, president of the National Television Academy. “She has made innovative and profound contributions to the television industry and the Academy is honored to present her with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Ms. Nevins has been president of HBO Documentary and Family since 2004. She previously served as the network’s executive vice president of original programming since 1999. During her tenure, Ms. Nevins has been a dominant force in documentary development and production at HBO, and the network’s critically acclaimed documentary and family programs have garnered numerous awards including 37 News and Documentary Emmys. She has supervised and assigned projects to filmmakers that have gone on to win 15 Documentary Academy Awards including “Born Into Brothels” (2004), “Chernobyl Heart” (2003), and “Murder on a Sunday Morning” (2001).
